The Story of Employ This Man
or how to get an edge in the recession
A good job in television drama production, and then the planet's financial collapse came and spoilt the whole thing. A similar story for lots of staff in many different industries meant that I found myself without work, in a hugely competitive job market, while the world sat in the midst of The Great Depression 2.0.
As I looked for an industry that wasn't on its knees, in which I could use my project management experience and editorial ability, there was only one answer. Television is dead. Long live the internet. But, how do you change career path, make an impact and convince people you are worth employing? You do the exact thing you want to be employed to do.
And thus Employ This Man was born. Not only is it an example of a creative solution to my need for a job and a great calling card, but it is an ongoing SEO, copywriting and marketing experiment. The product is me, and the audience is everyone.
There are obviously many problems with the employment market during an employment crisis, but there are two in particular that I have found very frustrating:
- Improving your approach while employers have too many applications to offer any feedback.
- Being able to prove your ability against such heavy competition.
This site was my solution to counter these issues and make the most impact possible. Hopefully this is also a fun recession story. I like to think that most people are trying everything they can to get a job, and past painting the side of my house and publishing that, this was the next best thing. Besides I can present far more copy here than on the side of my house.
I have had no technical web design experience up until now and I plan to consistently improve the quality of the site, as well as get some more entertaining content up.
Thank you for visiting, please tell someone about it and remember you can also Employ This Man for your online copywriting.
